Let Me Tell You A Story – Fivestory Sample Sale.

Early this morning I had a chance to preview the Fivestory offsite sample sale. The uptown boutique sells such high end designers like Balmain, Mary Katrantzou, Rochas, Sergio Rossi, and more. This year the sale found a new home at 260 Sample Sale’s SoHo outpost but the discounts remained unaffected. All items were marked with either a blue dot for extra 60% off retail or red dot for 80%. There was everything from ladies ready to wear to menswear, shoes, accessories, kids, and home. There is no dressing room but there is a mirror towards the back of the venue.
I apologize for the low resolution photos and lack of formatting. I wanted to publish this as soon as possible but unfortunately that meant using the severely outdated Blogger iOS app. When I can get to a computer this evening, I’ll update the photos and the article. Thanks for understanding! 🙂
I started in the accessories department located along the right wall, near the registers. There was a small selection of handbags and clutches at 60% off. I spotted a navy Mary Katrantzou tote along with a canvas clutch. There was a large shopper bag from Narciso Rodriguez that caught my eye but I’ll be honest, everything here was still too pricy.
Mary Katrantzou Marinella Tote $800
Mary Katrantzou clutch $234
Mary Katrantzou wristlet
Narcisso Rodriguez shopper bag $1,038
Home accessories at 60% off
Men’s Maison Takuya card cases $38, wallets, and iphone cases $46

In the middle of the space was a table with home goods and a limited amount of accessories for 80% off. I spotted Llardo salt and pepper sets, Limoge plates with Magritte’s paintings, and a few other odds and ends.
Home decor at 80% off
Gilbert and Georges Limoges decorative plates
Rene Magritte Limoges plates $25
Deeper discounted shoes were located in the back of the space. I immediately spotted Sergio Rossi and was curious to see how the prices compared to Century 21 sample sale last April. To put it mildly, they were higher and size selection was almost non existent. Most items only had 1 pair per style with majority of sizes favoring 36 and 40. Although I saw some 37,38s nothing really spoke to me.

The more expensive shoes, at 60% off were located near the entrance, across from the registers. There was more of a size selection but prices too prohibitive for a sample sale veteran. Considering that all major department stores are still running their 70-75% off sales on current season merchandise, the prices here don’t make much sense.

Ready to wear discounted at 60% off was located along the left wall, closer to the entrance while the deeper discounted merchandise was located towards the back. Once again I was drawn to Mary Katrantzou’s imaginative print designs. Prices, even at 80% remained high and while I do expect more discounts in the coming days I’m not sure how much stock will be left. I would imagine that big investment  items, like Balmain leather jackets that there were only a few of won’t last long.

There was a large selection of children’s merchandise, also divided into 60% and 80% categories, there were shoes from Marni and Oscar De La Renta, Outerwear from Chloe and more.
