The annual Issey Miyake
sample sale opened its doors bright and early this morning. Eager shoppers were lining up since 5:30am to shop this one day only sale. Issey Miyake’s pioneering designs redefined fashion standards and conventional production by letting the wearer decide how to wear his or her clothes. Thus allowing the consumer to be creative and think outside the norms of Western fashion. Bridging the East and the West, Miyake created a unique line of technology driven clothing. Although the venerable Japanese designer had officially retired in 1997 he still oversees the productions of the entire umbrella of Issey Miyake fashion lines.
Today’s sample sale is a unique opportunity to score discounted clothing and accessories from the Japanese label. This year the discounts were particularly good with everything 80% off original tags. Majority of the merchandise was womenswear, while menswear was limited to several racks along the right wall. In the middle of the room were tables with accessories such as handbags (no Bao Bao), belts, scarves, tights ($30), socks ($14), and a smattering of shoes. I spotted a few pairs of x Robert Clergerie collection, as well as a couple of Miyake flats.
Pleats Please offered the best price selection of the bunch. I spotted signature skirts for $172 and dresses for $122. Prices may be $10-$20 higher or lower than those mentioned, based on style and print. There was also a selection of outerwear from puffer coats to more elaborate jackets.

BOTTOM LINE: With the sale ending at 3 today there really isn’t much time unless you already happen to be in the area. If you are a die hard fan of the brand then definitely try to stop by as this is a rare opportunity to get discounted Issey Miyake apparel.
