Great Discounts At Milly Sample Sale, Really!

UPDATE: 9/18 Final markdowns. Tops $20-$35, bottoms $35, dresses $50, clutches and handbags $25.

The first ever official Milly sample sale kicked off earlier today. The brand has always been a staple at various Clothingline sales but this time the entire venue was full of Milly goodness. Founded in 2000 by Michelle Smith, Milly intertwines contemporary fashion with luxurious feminine edge.

The sale featured women’s and girl’s apparel as well as a large selection of handbags. Prices started at $29 for tops and went up to $179 for embellished coats, while handbags were priced at $29 for small sizes and $49 for large. If these price sound unbelievable that’s because they are! The savings are close to 90% off retail and you would be hard pressed to find similar deals at the Rack or Last Call.

There was a plethora of styles and colors to choose from. Handbags were located in the back of the venue, on the right hand side. Initially arranged by color and size inside big plastic bins. As the lunch crowd descended at noon, things became a bit chaotic but the staffers tried their best to keep the section organized. Now as far as styles are concerned, I spotted clutches, totes, satchels, crossbodies, micro bags, wallets, hobos, shoulder bags, basically any style you can think of except perhaps backpacks. There was also a full gamut of colors from bright yellows to hot pinks to sparkly gold and silver as well as  basics like black, white, brown, tan, etc. While the selection was being restocked in the afternoon I was told that this was it, there would be no restocking for tomorrow or Friday. Many bags were true samples, some styles never produced for retail. I would advise to inspect each item as some samples showed signs of wear or had stains/marks. Although for the most part the bags looked brand new and even came with dust bags. I spotted Mercer satchels in large and medium and in a variety of colors. The medium retails for $465 and is currently on sale at Last Call for $189 but at the sample sale it’s just $49! Bryant crossbody was $29 (retail $295, on sale at Nordstrom Rack for $140). They also had Logan, Colby, Dylan, and so much more.

Sophia mini-crossbody
Moving on to apparel, which consisted of dresses, coats, tops, and bottoms with prices starting at $29. Most items are samples so that means smaller sizes will have hit the jackpot. Also in many cases sizing is not specified. Thankfully a communal dressing room was available with a 10 item limit per person. Dresses dominated the selection with beautiful bold prints and colors, priced at $79. It’s not too early to start shopping for Holliday parties and this sale had the perfect selection. Fall/winter party dresses, tweed jackets that will brighten up your office attire, colorful coats to help you stand out from the dreary NYC uniform (I’m looking at you monochromatic dark tones). There were also summer styles like crop tops with matching skirts, mesh dresses and prints galore.

Don’t forget to check out children’s apparel. If you have a little girl age 4 or 10 (those are the only sizes) she needs Milly Minis! Priced $29 – $89 it was cuteness overload.

BOTTOM LINE: This is a must sale. Seriously, this one should be way up on your list. I recommend going as soon as possible for handbags as they will not be restocked. If you fit the sample size and love colorful clothing then go go go. It’s possible there may be additional markdowns on Friday but I wouldn’t necessary bank on it. If you want something, go now!
