After leaving the woefully under stocked Hermès sample sale empty handed I instead headed to another sale that happened to be on my radar. CP Fashion Group is hosting the semi-annual Vivienne Westwood sample sale in their Garment District Showroom. Featuring the eclectic British designer’s eponymous line as well as Anglomania, Red Label, and Man Gold Label. Discounts on women’s and men’s apparel are now 80%-90% off while handbags and accessories are 70% off original prices.
The huge showroom space is split into two with women’s clothing in the main area as you exit the elevator, menswear on the right, while handbags and accessories located inbetween those two sections. There are two dressing rooms for both sexes and the only mirrors are found inside them. Sizes range from XS to L and depending on production label and style are listed either in Italian, British, or US sizes. There are sizing conversion charts taped to the walls in case you get confused.
I was primarily interested in women’s apparel so that’s where we’ll start. The biggest discounts, read 90% off racks could be found all the way to the left, along the windows. There were $50 tartan trousers, $78 Whisper jacket in silver, the most adorable kitten t-shirts ($41), Red Label dresses $115-$147. While the racks were far from empty it seemed like the really good stuff was already gone. I didn’t see much in terms of outerwear and knits, maybe a single piece here and there. The more current collection 80% off racks seemed to feature more variety with bold prints, punk inspired motifs, etc. There were dresses, skirts, pants, tops, trench coats, jackets, and more.
Also at 90% off was a small selection of Anglomania denim, on the tables in the corner. Sizes ranged from 23 to 31 with tiny sizes having the most variety. Among the styles I spotted were Monroe Jeggings for $35, Riccardi skinny jeans $29.50, boyfriend jeans $45. If you’re looking for shoes, forget about it. I saw literally just four pairs that are probably gone already.
Handbags were 70% off with prices ranging from $165 for leopard tartan print shoulder bag to $260 for a yellow leather shopper tote. Wallet selection was fairly picked over and phone cases were for very old devices. There were also scarves $30 small, $45 medium, $75 large on the shelves opposite the handbags.
BOTTOM LINE: The sale definitely warrants a stop for Westwood fans and bargain hunters alike. Denim and jackets in particular are very well priced.
