A.L.C. Comes To NYC

This week you can shop the first ever A.L.C. New York City sample sale. Andrea Lieberman’s L.A. based label exudes effortless chic and casual luxury. A New Yorker herself and graduate of Parsons School of Design, Lieberman launched her eponymous line in 2009. Working as a stylist to the stars she created looks for Jennifer Lopez, including that famous Versace dress worn by the singer to 2009 Grammy awards, as well as numerous looks for Gwen Stefani, Kate Hudson and other superstars. No wonder A.L.C was welcomed with immediate praise from fans and celebs alike.

The sale takes place in the familiar Chelsea Market space that previously played host to other Privé sample sales like Theory, Free People, Ronny Kobo, etc. The organizers were kind enough to let me preview the sale before the doors officially opened to the public on Wednesday. Initially the sale was meant to take place inside their smaller venue but due to such large amount of merchandise, the hosts opted to move everything to the larger showroom. In order to fully maximize the space they also called on their friends at Bonobos who sent a last minute shipment of men’s shirts, jackets, shorts, and of course pants. Most items were from the Spring collection and still selling at full price but if you are a guy who wears size Medium or 32 waist then you need to run over ASAP! Check out my separate post for all things Bonobos but now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

The venue was well stocked with women’s apparel from basic tees ($39), knitwear ($99), dresses ($179+),  tops ($119) and more. The sale offered a great selection in sizes 0 to 12 and included pieces from current collections. I spotted Aaron Skirts from Holiday ’15, Jacquard Rudd Shorts and matching Toby Tops from Resort ’16 as well as Julie Top from Spring ’16. Many items are still being sold online and department stores at full price! Look at this gorgeous Paley Silk Printed Dress that is $695 online but at the sample sale you can buy it for $209. Advertised discounts are listed at 60% off retail but I’ve seen a few items at up to 70% off original prices. The organizers mentioned that they managed to convince the label to lower their starting prices since let’s face it……NYC sample sales and L.A. ones are two very different beasts. So thank the nice folks at Privé for bringing you the low-er prices! The sale offers a dressing room and items will be restocked throughout the duration of the sale.

Skirts $159
Aaron Metallic A-line Skirt $149 (retail $395)
Jumpsuits $279
Metallic Crop Top $99 (retail $225)

Everything was organized by category so skirts ($159) and pants ($179) could be found along the left wall. Further back were black jumpsuits (the priciest items at the sale) and all the way in the back was a rack of original samples. While the prices were not set at the timeout the preview I expect them to be significantly less than their stock counterparts. To the right of the dressing room you’ll find $99 sweaters and knitwear, including these pretty pink pastel merino wool sweaters. Dresses, tops, and a vast selection of tees were situated in the middle of the venue. Priced at $39 there were lots of Made in USA linen and cotton short, long, and sleeveless tees. If there is one single California cool girl essential it’s the light effortless form flattering t-shirt. Much like James Perse, A.L.C. has also been perfecting the art of the tee. These tops usually retail $100-$175 so $39 seems like a pretty good deal. I’ll admit that it wasn’t until my last vacation in Santa Monica that I finally understood why the locals love these tops so much. The sale also offered crop tops, dress shirts, and silk blouses. There was a rack of stylish silk pajama sets for $119 as well. The sale is scheduled to run through Sunday and I will keep you updated on any additional markdowns.

BOTTOM LINE: Fans of the brand should make an effort to attend this sale. With so many pieces from the current collection you can get a full summer wardrobe refresh. While it’s not a bargain affair I found prices to be quite competitive. Potential additional discounts would make the sale even more enticing. And don’t forget to tell your guy about the Bonobos sample sale.
