UPDATE: Everything extra 20% off. Footwear now extra 30% off.
James Perse is bringing his brand of casual L.A. chic to NYC. With warm weather finally on the horizon (it’s going to be 90 F today!) it is the perfect time to stock up on the essentials. Known for his lightweight cotton basics and loungewear favored by the Los Angeles elite, James Perse brought the laid back beach luxe look to the mainstream.
I had a chance to check out the preview where I found myself in a sea of tees. T-shirts as far as the eye could see, and I’m not exaggerating. Men’s tees, women’s tees, short-sleeve, sleeveless, henley, lightweight, paper, cotton, linen, and in a myriad of colors. James Perse apparel comes in sizes 0-4 (XS-XL) for ladies and 0-5 (XS-XXL) for men. I saw most sizes represented although sizes 1-2 will have more options. Menswear can be found along the left wall and on the opposite racks. Majority of apparel was comprised of t-shirts but there was also a good amount of shorts, lounge pants, knitwear, and even a couple of puffer vests. There was more womenswear this time: t-shirts (duh!), dresses, lounge pants, yoga pants, shorts, skirts, sweaters, hoodies, and even some coats. Prices were almost unchanged (shorts are cheaper this time) from the brand’s last sample sale
with t-shirts priced at $30, pants $60, dresses $70, and at the higher end of the spectrum there were Collection jackets and sweaters for $150. Please refer to the price list for a full breakdown and check out the gallery below or scroll down for photos from inside the sale.
If you’re looking to stay cozy indoors then you should check out the blankets (on a table at the base of the stairs), like these cashmere ones (photos 4 and 5 from the bottom up) for $399. For more affordable accessories take a look at the socks bin where a pair will set you back $10. Towards the register you’ll also find footwear from the likes of Salomon, Birkenstock, Vibram, and more. Prices were OK but you can do better at Nordstrom Rack or Century 21 or even online. Let’s face it you’re here for the t-shirts 😉 One important thing to note is that some merchandise showed signs of wear and minor damage. I saw a couple of tops with stains, pin holes, discoloration, etc. It is unusual for this sale as their merchandise is generally brand new stock. I believe there was some shipping mishap this year and the staffers mentioned an entire box full of damages (it was not put out on the showroom floor). Would have been nice if they made a $5 damage bin but don’t hold your breath!
All the way in the back were racks of women’s athletic wear by Yosemite, James Perse’s athletic line. I saw shorts $55, yoga pants $30, and loungewear $30. There are separate dressing rooms for women and men so feel free to try something on. The sale runs through Sunday and we are likely to see at least an additional 20% off by then.
BOTTOM LINE: For those in the market for basics and loungewear this is the sale you’ve been waiting for. Prices are a bit high for a casual shopper but there is a reason why James Perse is so popular with the laid back crowd. I recommend waiting for the extra markdowns to hit as the merchandise is highly unlikely to sell out before then.
