Century 21 Luxury Handbag Event Will Make Your Wallet Cry

Tuesday, May 24, 2016

UPDATE: Additional discounts, select bags now up to 85% off.

This week you can shop Century 21's limited time luxury handbag event. Held inside their usual sample sale venue, C21 Edition, this event is not a typical sample sale but rather akin to a department store sale. Discounts range from 50% off original prices to as high as 75% based on designer. Although majority of handbags will fall into the 50% off category.

If you are in search of an investment bag then this might be your sale. The designer lineup was more than impressive, featuring Céline, Proenza Schouler, Valentino, Jimmy Choo, Alexander McQueen, Jimmy Choo, Lanvin, Dolce & Gabbana, and Tod's. Everything was 50% off retail tags with the exception of Céline (60% off), Valentino (65% off), and Tod's (75% off). Always searching for the best bargain I started with Tod's but was very disappointed to only find Fanny Packs $ (retail $395) and Satin Clutches $ (retail $820). The designer that most intrigued me was of course Céline. Their sample sales are notoriously private and exclusive so short of boutique sales or consignment it is not easy to find their bags on sale. Realistically I knew that it was unlikely for Century to have Luggage Totes but what can I say! A girl can hope :) Of course no, there were no luggage totes and really the only bags available were large Bi-Color Cabas totes $538 (retail $1,345) in mostly bright colors.

Tod's satin clutch $205 (retail $820)
Tod's fanny pack $98.75 (retail $395)
Céline Bi-Color Cabas totes $538 (retail $1,345)

All the Célines

Valentino and Proenza Schouler offered the widest selection. There were rockstuds, even the coveted totes and clutches although primarily in bold, bright colors. I spotted embellished evening bags, acrylic box clutches, exotic trim shoulder bags, and even a few Red Valentino totes. As for Proenza, there were many PS1 bags, including tiny and medium in a good variety of colors and styles like the fringe version. There were also men's bags and backpacks like these PS1 Backpacks $997.50 (retail $1,995) and Small PS Backpacks $847.50 (retail $1,695). I was told by the organizers that no restocking was expected and that everything thats already out is all that is available. Check out the gallery below to see some examples and scroll down for photos from inside the sale.

One of the few "cheap" deals: Valentino small totes $166.25 (retail $475)
Valentino acrylic box clutches $1,400 (retail $4,000)
A few tiny box clutches
There were even Valentino Rockstud totes for $705.25 (retail $2,015)
Big selection of Proenza Schouler at 50% off
Tiny and Medium PS1bags
Proenza Schouler backpacks $997.50 (retail $1,995)
More Proenza Schouler
Fringed PS1 satchels on display

Lanvin bags 50% off
Lanvin bowling bags $995 and $1,070 (retail $1,990 and $2,140)
Alexander McQueen demanta clutch $472.50 (retail $945)
McQueen mini satchel $732.50 (retail $1,465)
Jimmy Choo bags $847.50 (retail $1,695)
Salvatore Ferragamo 50% off
Ferragamo $645 (retail $1,290)
Ferragamo quilted wallet $162.50 (retail $325)

BOTTOM LINE: The sale runs until Wednesday and additional discounts are unlikely although as always I'll keep you updated as soon as I hear anything. The current discounts did not impress me personally. There were some good deals though, especially on the above Ferragamo wallets that are current style and come out to $162.50 after discount. Jimmy Choo you can always find much cheaper at their own sample sales and same goes for Proenza. McQueen is cheaper during department store sales and Lanvin I've seen dirt cheap at Century 21 itself. So really if you are looking to splurge on Valentino (again I've seen them cheaper at Century 21) or pick up a newer Ferragamo bag then head on over otherwise you can skip this one.

    1. They need to do extra markdowns, Ferragamo style! Remember last year when all bags were $50-$150? We need more of that!
