Last evening I had the pleasure of attending the preview of Mela Artisans and Masala Baby sample sale. The two companies are holding their first ever sample sale inside their SoHo showroom. Mela Artisans is a luxury lifestyle brand that combines traditional handcrafting techniques with freshness and functionality of contemporary design. Their exquisite and fashion forward home decor and jewelry collections are all created by hand in India preserving age-old artisan traditions. Masala Baby + Kids is a vibrant kids wear and accessory company that stands out as Brooklyn based, Indian made and globally inspired.
The sale offers a nice selection of home decor, jewelry, and accessories. Prices started at just $1 for coasters, glass ornaments, various miscellaneous pieces and a special bin of jewelry. Picture frames were $8-$20 depending on size. Most items are made from either wood, bone, mother of pearl, glass, stone, and metal. I found pieces from their newest collections like Tribeca wood boxes, trays, picture frames, coasters, and cheese knives. As well as frames and boxes from the Pinstripe collection. In fact most items that you currently see on their website you can expect to find at this week’s sale. Along the left wall were shelves with photo frames, wooden boxes of various sizes $5-$20, bone boxes $10-$30, trays and tray sets $10-$50, bowls $5-$30, large lanterns $30, as well as small lanterns and hurricanes for $15. Many of the afformentioned pieces are quite heavy so you may need to call Uber. There were a lot of samples or items with minor defects like misaligned edges, warped wood, etc. but everything was priced accirdingly. Decorative pillows could be found on the top shelves opposite the entrance while table runners, placemats, throws, bags, and coasters were in nearby plastic bins. There were also colorful scarves and the small embroidered totes were just too adorable. Tucked away on the back shelves I spotted cake carving and bottle opener sets as well as large magnifying glasses. If you love trinkets and eastern style vintage inspired decorative accents you will love this sale. My only minor nitpick was that nearly everything was extremely heavy.
Jewelry was set up on the big table in the middle if the room. There were $60 large jeweled bangles and stone cuffs, $25 cable bracelets reminiscent of David Yurman, $15 horn hoop earrings, $25 rings, necklaces $40-$50, and much more. Please consult the above price list for a complete breakdown. The organizers informed me that more jewelry was expected to arrive today so you may spot a few styles not pictured in the photos. There was also one bin with $1 jewelry that consisted of lots of big statement earrings.
There was one large rack of Masala Baby children’s clothes and more merchandise was expected today. Just in time for summer there were lots of fun colorful styles for babies and kids. Sizes ranged from infant to 12 years. All apparel was priced $5-$20 while quilts were $20/$40. Bright print sun hats, bloomers were only $5 and the super adorable stuffed toys/pillows (like this elephant in the 5th photo) were $10.
Huge thanks to the organizers for hosting and inviting me to preview the sale. If you shopped last year’s Kim Seybert epic warehouse sale you might recognize some of these ladies because they used to work there!
BOTTOM LINE: This sale offers some great bargains on home decor and children’s clothes. With prices so low it’s a no brainer! Especially for those who have a backyard/patio there were some great accent pieces to be found. Sale runs through Friday and I do not expect additional discounts since everything is already pretty cheap but I will keep you updated on any further
