I Know Vera!

At least that’s what my t-shirt says. So who’s Vera and why should you care? I am of course talking about none other than Vera Wang herself and no, I don’t really know her. What I do know is that prices at her NYC sample sale are unbelievably good. In fact I can guarantee that you won’t find better deals anywhere else. We are talking discounts of well over 90% off retail and prices starting as low as $5.

The sale featuring ready to wear and accessories by Vera Wang kicked off earlier this week at 260 Sample Sale’s SoHo location. Billed as a joint sample sale along with Giles & Brother the sale officially opened on Wednesday but there was little excitement as prices were high and selection fairly small. While I was expecting additional markdowns to arrive before the weekend I certainly did not anticipate the epic deals that greeted me yesterday.

After a heads up from a friendly tipster I learned that on top of the already slashed prices posted on 260’s social media accounts they also offered various bulk buy deals. For instance buying any four items will get you an additional 25% off your total price or even better if you buy ten item you’ll get an extra 50% off! $3,000+ gowns were marked down to $350 which was great in itself but after an additional 50% off I ended up paying $175 +tax for a $4,600 Vera Wang Collection dress! I stopped by the Greene street venue early that morning and found a small but very pretty selection of Vera Wang RTW. Key terms for this sale involved embroidery, beading, and embellishments of varying degrees. I breathed a sigh of relief as there were no lines and the venue was nearly empty save for myself and a few other shoppers. The jewelry was still there and so were the $10 T-shirts that I admired during the preview but was unable to justify at $50 price tags. I guess it’s true what they say, good things come to those who wait! I had a game plan all set up, ready to pull in together with friends so we could reach the 10 item limit for maximum discounts. Yet once I started grabbing things I found out just how easy it was to reach the necessary total all on my own! At only $10 t-shirts worked great as necessary filler and better yet they ended up being $5 after final discounts, not to mention they’re actually pretty cute and stylish. Initially sizes were available from 0 to 12 but once the markdown madness began the popular sizes began flying off the racks. I found some styles to run small (which is normal for Vera Wang RTW) but a few actually ran large! I tried on a size 2 (I haven’t been that small in years haha) and it was huge. A lot of styles that I saw, particularly in outerwear came from the ’14/’15 collections although there were some dresses from as far back as seasons ’10/’11. There were no wedding gowns as there was a separate sale specifically for bridal earlier this week.

All the way in the back you’ll find shoes now priced $40-$60 (or $20-$30 if you buy 10). Its rare to see shoes at Vera Wang sample sales so this was a nice surprise. The selection was tiny but those prices! I spotted two styles of flats, three sandals, and a few wedges/heels. You can see them all represented in the photos below. Another surprise was finding Vera Wang jewelry! Huge $75 beaded bib necklaces, $20 earrings, and $40 bracelets were lining tables near the entrance. If you’re looking to make a statement and I mean a serious statement then these pieces won’t disappoint. Most of her jewelry retails for $300-$1,500 so we are talking incredible savings. Of course buying multiple pieces nest you even better prices. My necklaces ended up being just $37.50 +tax after the final discounts.

The other half of the venue was devoted to Giles & Brother jewelry. The NYC based company founded by a brother and sister duo creates fashion jewelry with signature brass and silver oxide finish and is meant to embody the American pioneering spirit. All along the right hand wall you’ll find rings, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces arranged by price from $5 to $80. There is an additional 20% off discount but with all the insanely amazing Vera Wang deals I almost feel bad for them because no one was interested. The poor sales people looked lonely and bored as the longingly stared at the mobbed Vera Wang jewelry tables.

BOTTOM LINE: Both sales end today at 4pm so there isn’t much time. Unfortunately the more interesting pieces with embroidery, beading, embellishments are mostly gone. There are no more tees and last I heard the $25 sweatshirts were nearly wiped as well. There was still some jewelry but styles are likely limited. Still if yo are in the neighborhood its worth stopping by because there are even more discounts today! As for Giles & Brother? Im afraid that a mere 20% off just doesn’t cut it this time.
