UPDATE: 2/16 Buy any 2 pairs get the 3rd for $99.
This week 260 Sample Sale is hosting two great events, one of which happens to be the much anticipated Bruno Magli sample sale that offers savings of up to 75% off retail on women’s and men’s footwear. Over three years ago the venerable Italian label undertook a self imposed hiatus in anticipation of a relaunch of the women’s footwear line in 2016. For its 80th anniversary Bruno Magli sought to reinvent itself for the new generation while staying true to the brand’s luxury Italian heritage.
I stopped by Monday’s very quiet preview (everyone’s too busy with Fashion Week after all 😉) to find a large selection of shoes for both women and men. Everything was from their newly relaunched Fall 2016 collection! Just as advertised, discounts went up to 75% off retail with prices starting at $125. All footwear came in Bruno Magli signature mint blue boxes and consisted of only stock (no samples). Pricing was very straight forward, there were signs showing specific styles and their corresponding price of either $125, $150, $175, or $200/$300 for boots. Majority of women’s stock consisted of flats and pumps. I spotted Emma, Eldora, Anita, and Miranda flats as well as Allegra, Antonia, and Anna pumps in mid and high heels. Most of these shoes retail from $450-$475. There were lots of great work appropriate styles and even a couple of party heels like the Patrizia embellished sandals at $175 (retail $550). They even had the most recent Antonia styles dubbed, The Lucy, in honor of actress Lucy Liu who is the new face of Bruno Magli. Directly in front of the coat check you’ll find a table with boots and booties like the Onilia pointed-toe ankle boots and Alberta over the knee suede boots. As far as sizes were concerned I saw a lot of 37/38/39 with a handful of 40s and very few 36s. Most styles had maybe 3-5 boxes on display although the staff had more back stock underneath the tables. If you don’t see your size it’s worth asking one of the employees to check. No word on restocking as of yet but since the sale runs through Sunday I’d expect some additional restocking as well as markdowns. All the way in the back you’ll find mirrors and a couple of chairs.
Now let’s take a look at men’s selection of footwear. You’ll find men’s shoes all along the left wall and in the back of the venue. Almost everything was priced at $125 save for a few select Collezione styles like Bicci croc-print loafers at $150 (retail $550), Lotto shearling lined boots (retail $725) and Franco oxfords lace-ups both at $175. Other styles included Siro, Santo, and Allesio sneakers that retail from $395 to $475. All the way in the back I saw more boots, loafers, and sandals that were all labeled as miscellaneous footwear at $125 each pair. It looked like they came from older? collections with the dark red boxes. I did not check for specific sizing but much like with women’s selection the more popular sizes will have wider selection. Also in case anyone is curious there were no accessories, just shoes.
BOTTOM LINE: This week’s sale offers a great selection of Italian made shoes for women and men. There are lots of office appropriate styles for the ladies as well as dressy and everyday shoes for the gents. Prices are good but I recommend holding out for additional markdowns towards the end of the sale. Although men’s shearling boots are a nice investment at just $175.
