UPDATE: 3/16 Extended through Friday! 3/14 Closed today (Tuesday) due to snow!Alright ladies and gentlemen! Who likes surprises? Because earlier this afternoon Diptyque suddenly announced the return of their beloved annual sample sale. The French perfumer had not abandoned its NYC faithful and has treated us to a very sudden but of course very welcome sample sale. The event once again takes place at Century 21 Edition venue and runs through Thursday. Due to the unexpected nature of their announcement there are no crowds outside and plenty of classic candles and fragrances. I highly recommend going today if you can! Tomorrow’s snow storm is likely to wreak havoc on transportation and you can bet there’ll be huge lines outside.
I was blissfully unaware of the U-turn my day was about to take. While on my way to the Milly sample sale I suddenly received a last moment invite to Diptyque! I’ve been greatly anticipating this event (as it is normally scheduled for February) but this year we were thrown for a loop. Luckily it all worked out for the best! The sudden announcement meant that there were no lines, even when I left during lunch time and crowds should have been at their prime.
The sale is located on the second floor of the
C21 Edition space. Proceed to grab one of the shopping bags and start loading up! The only limit was on standard candles (10 each). Selection was one of the best I’ve seen in years. Lots of classic standard candles like
Roses,
Baies,
Tubereuse,
Verviene,
Vanille,
Ambre,
Jasmine,
Coriandre,
Pomander,
Choisya,
Feuille de Lavande,
Oranger, and more. Prices were similar to past sales with
standard 190g (6.5oz) candles at
$35 and mini
70g (2.4oz) at
$20 each. They
retail for $64 and $34 respectively. You’ll find all the classic scents on the left hand side of the venue. There were larger
300g colored candles available for
$45 (retail $90) but only in these three scents:
Tubereuse,
Ambre, and
Figuier. The sale also offered a great selection of special and limited edition candles and sets. Among Diptyque’s most popular candles are their special
Valentine’s Day collaboration items. I’m happy to report that there was a large selection of last year’s
Olympia Le Tan Rosaviola candles in standard and mini size. There were
scented ovals and
hand creams ($13) from the same collection. Another surprise was finding
Primavera candles from the
Printemps 150 year anniversary special edition. Funny thing is that I tried to buy them in Paris during my last trip but they were completely sold out. I guess good things come to those who wait 🙂
Some of the best deals came in the form of coffrets. There were 3, 5, and 10 mini candles sets. These little candles are smaller than the regular minis. They’re just 35g (1.23oz) but are a great way to sample Diptyque’s variety of scents, especially at these prices. A Nordstrom exclusive anniversary edition coffret of five candles is only $28 but there is a slightly different coffret for $35. There were two versions of 10 candles coffrets for just $65 each. Diptyque SA’s are available to help answer any and all questions. I personally had quite a few because things can get pretty confusing trying to figure out which set is which 🙂 Holiday candles were once again in large abundance but unlike previous years they did not feel overwhelming. There were this year’s holiday ’17 (Epices et Delices, Le Roi Sapin, Encens Étoile) standard, mini, and 3 candle sets, as well as ’16 (Lobian, Spain, Liquid Ambar) and ’15 (Resin, Épice, Hiver) holiday editions. Prices were the same as standard cables: $35 and $20 respectively. Larger candles from 34 Collection like La Proveresse, Le Redoute, Trente Quatre Boulevard Saint Germain, and even Bazar were also present. They were priced at $45 for 220g and retail for $85.
The sale also offered a large selection of
fragrances and beauty. Diptyque scents are considered unisex so despite some being labeled as a Cologne or Perfume they’ll work for both women and men based on your personal scent preferences. Most

Essences Incensées atomizer perfume bottles. Not to be overlooked, beauty and skincare items could be found right as you enter the venue. Hand and body creams, shower gels, lotions, balms, cleansers, oils, beauty water, soaps, and sets!
L’Art du Soin facial skincare and

Hi Busy Bee! I didn't make it to the Milly sample sale but prices were good from what I was told. Separates are $25-$50, dresses $60, jackets $75, coats $100. They also had $10 jewelry but bag prices I believe have gone up to over $100+ Check out my friend, LeHoarder's Instagram stories for details, she was there yesterday.
There are extra markdowns for the last two days of Milly sample sale! Dresses are now $45, tops $10-$35.
Do you think they will still have a lot tomorrow (since it is closed today) ?? I have been waiting for this ALL year and have been checking every few days, and checked last night and saw it was posted AND MISSED the first day!!
Hi! Sorry you missed the first day 🙁 It was such a last minute announcement, I just got lucky because I was already in that area when I found out.
Tomorrow should still be very well stocked. As you can see from the photos they had a lot of inventory. The only items that were running low last evening and might be sold out are the standard Baies, Tubereuse, and Roses candles. Primavera and Rosaviola might also be running low so if you're interested in any of them you should go as early as possible. Good luck tomorrow and hope you find what you want!

No Byredo unfortunately. They didn't have it last year either. Both Byredo and Diptyque are owned by the same parent company so hopefully it makes a return at some point!
I was there for the opening today. There were few popular regular sized candles left (no roses, tuberose, baies). There were few Mumisas, Figuer, Ambrose, Vanille, Jasmine, Oranger and Rosaviola. Pretty much all of them were snatched up by the first wave of shoppers. The line at the opening wasn't too bad, but it was cold out there!
Unfortunately, there were no PRIMAVERA candles left. I know this is a long shot, but would somebody who managed to score it be interested in reselling or trading it for another scent? I was after that candle and was so disappointed they didn't have any!

Similar thing happened to me last year trying to buy Rosafolia but then a few months later it turned up on HauteLook of all places! They do an online Diptyque sale twice a year so it's worth keeping an eye out because you never know 🙂 Hope you were still able to find something!

They had lots of L'ombre dans L'eau on the first day and from what I've heard they still have a very large stock of fragrances. It's possible there might be additional markdowns for the last day so at this point you may want to wait it out?
Is there anything good left as of Wednesday afternoon, 3/15? Trying to decide whether it's worth making my way down there after work or not…

As far as candles go – they only have holiday scents (a ton of those) but no regular scents

Looks like ReViews from the back already answered your question 🙂 I'd just like to say that the holiday candles have remarkable throw and shouldn't be overlooked. Of course I know they're not as popular as the classic scents.
No lines now / today – but only holiday candles left (and all the perfumes are still pretty much stocked)

I was there at 9 (after walking around the store for 15 minutes instead of going to Dey Street) picked up a well stocked Benjoin and much less well stocked Oranger. A C21 rep fortuitously placed a brand new unwrapped Ambre in my sight at the right moment and I scooped that one. Also got a small Tubereuse but the box is stained (no worries smells delightful).
My favorite grab was the mini 10 box set. As you mentioned above,do not underestimate. Roses and Feu alongside other beauties. Thank you for keeping this live report going! I'd love to hear about latebreaking Thursday news.

I'm waiting for news from my C21 contacts. Keep an eye on their daily emails, they tend to list sample sale updates right at the top but either way I'll update this post if I hear anything new.
There are no additional markdowns as of this morning and per C21 email blast the sale is in fact ending today at 6pm!
So apparently their email was incorrect and the sale has been extended through Friday! I've updated the post. They also said that they are unable to comment on any potential markdowns so who knows? At this point we might as well wait til Friday!
I called C21 Edition and they told me that the sale was being extended thru Friday due to a day lost during the blizzard.
I was there around 9am this morning and very slim pickings at this point. No classic candles in any size and not very many personal scents in smaller 1.7 sizes. Also, solid perfumes all sold out. Maybe I'll get lucky next year ��
