How is everyone doing on this cold Wednesday? I was literally snowed in yesterday! No buses or subways were running in my part of Brooklyn but remarkable 260 Sample Sale
‘s venues were open! Those who braved the snow managed to snag some pretty great deals. I myself was able to check out a preview of this week’s Jil Sander Navy
sample sale before the apocalyptic weather reared its ugly head. As you know my day took an unexpected turn with the sudden news of Diptyque sample sale
and while the Jil Sander sale was announced weeks ago the event turned out to be full of surprises. The very good kind! Not only can you find incredible deals on Jil Sander’s diffusion line but the sale also offers footwear and clothing from other luxury designers like Proenza Schouler
, See by Chloe
, Antonio Berardi
, and others. And did I mention that all shoes are just $50
I’ll be honest, I was expecting the typical “up to 75% off type of sale with some OK deals but I was certainly taken for a loop when I spotted tables lined with $50 Proenza Schouler shoes. It turns out that Jil Sander, Proenza Schouler, and the rest of the aforementioned labels are all owned by Onward Luxury Group. So now things certainly begin to make more sense. Let’s continue talking about the shoes because they were the highlight of the event. All footwear is located on the tables in the back of the venue. There are many styles to choose from like tall boots, shearling booties, metallic loafers, patent Mary Janes, high heel pumps, lace up sandals, and more. Most styles are sadly one-offs so you need to get lucky with sizing. Overall I saw sizes from 35 to 40 but I’d say that majority was either 36 or 39. As you can imagine these shoes all retail for $300 to as high as $1,500! All styles also come with original boxes and dust bags so you’re getting sample pricing on brand new stock! How rare is that?! I have not seen such prices even at the brand’s individual sales! I’m sure the inventory has dwindled a bit by now but it’s still worth a look! Unfortunately there’s no restocking on shoes.
To the right of the registers you’ll find shelves with handbags and accessories. All Jil Sander Navy bags were just $50 and there were so many cute options from small top handles to large totes. There were also a few bags from Rochas but prices were a bit higher at $300. They also had accessories like belts, hats, gloves, and scarves for $10-$25. Jewelry was also listed but at the time they have not received a shipment.
Moving on to apparel there was a lot to choose from. Pricing was broken down between Jill Sander Navy and all the other designers. Navy prices were incredible! Just $25-$35 for tops and bottoms, $55 for dresses, $100 coats and $200 leather. Please refer to the pricelist photo for more details. I fell in love with a long green shearling and leather jacket that would have been just $200 but sadly wasn’t my size. In fact most pieces were predominantly size 36 (US 4). While I’ve spotted a few larger sizes those who wear 0-4 will fare best. Also worth noting that Jil Sander uses German/EU sizing and other designers were a French 36-38. But either way small sizes win here. All racks were organized by category: jackets, coats, knitwear, skirts, dresses, etc. and all the designers were pretty much mixed together. Aside from Jil Sander Navy you’ll also find the main line, Jill Sander as well as Antonio Berardi, See by Chloe, and Veronique Branquinho. The latter designer’s gorgeous lace dresses made me dream of summer but the $500 price tag quickly woke me up! The designer apparel wasn’t cheap to put it mildly but the good news is that organizers promised significant markdowns towards the end of the sale. There is a dressing room available and two full size mirrors in the middle of the venue.
BOTTOM LINE: You can’t beat $50 designer shoes! If you’re lucky to find your size you just scored yourself an amazing deal. Pricing on Jil Sander Navy is pretty great but sizes are limited to FR 36 or 38. As for the designer apparel my advice is to wait for markdowns that should hopefully arrive tomorrow or Friday.
