UPDATE: 4/21 Extra 20% off sale prices.
is shaping up to be full of great sample sales which may or may not be good for your wallet. There are five note worth events happening today with arguably the biggest sample sale of the week being Marc Jacobs
. Meanwhile over at 260’s main venue you can channel your inner bohemian spirit child and stock up on some chic Parisian threads from Maje
. The French label is known for their feminine designs and this week’s selection offers lots of summer friendly styles as well as a few transitional looks. The discounts average around 70%-75% off retail with prices starting at $45 for t-shirts and going up to $245 for leather jackets.
I stopped by the F&F preview last evening to find a well stocked venue full of Spring/Summer friendly looks. Dresses and skirts were a big highlight with lots of beautiful light silks, colorful prints, and of course white lace and embroidery. Unlike the last sale I attended, Maje did not have to share the spotlight with sister label Sandro (who will be holding their own sample sale next month). This of course translated to an abundant selection but the prices remained high. Perhaps I was still under the spell of Marc Jacobs and that sale’s incredible discounts that I just couldn’t get too excited about these prices. $105 dresses, $85 skirts, $115 cardigans, $145 jackets and blazers…… While these prices are more or less on par with past sales (certain categories tend to go up or down $10-$20) things seemed high. You can now easily find Maje at Century 21, Nordstrom Rack, etc. and often times on clearance for much less than current prices. It is worth noting that selection wise things can’t possibly compare yet I can’t help but feel underwhelmed with this sale. Sizes ranged from 1-3 (S-L) and there seemed to be a good sizing selection all around. Besides the summery frocks and separates the sale also included a nice but small selection of leathers: tops, shorts, skirts, dresses, jackets, and pants. There were even a handful of $495 shearlings. There is a communal dressing room located in the back.
Shoes can be found all the way in the back of the venue. Prices started at $105 for pumps and sandals while sneakers were $125 and booties $145. There were several cute styles like these heeled sandals with studs. I spotted espadrilles, studded leather slides, white slip-ons and sneakers as well as suede booties. Besides shoes there were other accessories like scarves and belts (both $35), jewelry $25, small and large handbags ($65/$145) and small leather goods $35.
BOTTOM LINE: While I loved the selection I wasn’t too crazy about the prices. I really wish that both Maje and Sandro would join the ranks of 90% off sample sales but as it stands the best we can hope for is an extra 20% off during the weekend.
