Let’s go (R)Etro!

It’s always an exciting time whenever a brand holds a first-ever sample sale. Sunday afternoon Milan based Etro made their NYC debut at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Hosted by Lazar Shopping, the event offered discounts of 80% off retail on women’s and men’s apparel, shoes, jewelry, and other accessories. Earlier this morning the deals got even better for the last day of the sale as discounts hit 90% off original prices! If you are a fan of colorful prints and retro inspired European designs then this sample sale is for you!

The venue was extremely well stocked with luxury styles for both women and men. There were racks upon racks of apparel and tables overflowing with shoes. Women’s clothing and footwear could be found along the right side while men’s items took up the whole left side of the venue. Items were organized by size and separated by categories such as skirts, pants, denim, dresses, knits, etc. There was a full range of women’s sizes from Italian 38 to 50 (US 2-14) and men’s IT 44 to 58 (US 34-48). Dressing rooms were also available.
Like I mentioned earlier, everything is now a flat 90% off original prices and as you can imagine most items were individually priced. I’ll do my best to give you examples and just give a general idea of each category’s price range. The prices for women started at around $15 for the basic solid color short sleeve tees. Polo shirts in various colorful prints started at $35 for the sleeveless styles and went up to $50+. Dress shirts were also priced from $50 to $75 depending on style. All shirts could be found neatly laid out on tables in the middle of the room. Lightweight knits were also located on the same tables. An embellished black sweater came out to $131, a plain solid color wool sweater was $68. Colorful jeans could be had for $50-$75. Further back you’ll find dresses, blazers, luxury knits, and outerwear. The sale’s most expensive item came in the form of a long yellow and black beaded runway dress that retailed for $21,410 so even with 90% off you’re still looking at $2,141 oh and a model body to fit into it lol Luckily there were plenty of more accessible and versatile dresses for the rest of us. Prices ranged from $125-$300. Personally I was most interested in Etro’s knits, jackets, and blazers. The luxurious open front cardigans and long button down jackets were among my favorites. A velvet print zip jacket was now $296, long floral print open cardigan was $159, long geometric print knit jacket was $293. Basically most luxury knits are now under $300. There were of course also heavily embellished pieces like the short jacket in the photos below that retailed for $12,570 and is now $1,257. Outerwear had some beautiful pieces but even with 90% off prices were a bit out of my league. I fell in love with be with a gorgeous wool coat with a flutter skirt but at over $700 after markdowns it was not to be. Furs and shearlings will set you back $900 – $2,000. Of course if you are looks my to make an investment purchase for next winter season these are good deals. You certainly won’t find comparable prices anywhere else.
The sale also included a good selection of shoes ranging in sizes from 36 to 40. I found certain styles to run a bit small though. Prices now start at $50 and go up to $150 for tall boots. The selection has certainly dwindled from the opening day.
At the front of the venue you’ll find accessories like beachwear, swimsuits, coverups, towels, and even some fragrances and shower gels although those are likely gone by now. Handbags and small leather goods were located further back but the selection was small and lackluster even on the first day. Jewelry on the other hand looked very enticing! Simple rings started at just $18-$20 with most pieces now in the $50 range. Large statement necklaces were $75-$95. Belts started at $25 and above.
There was a huge selection of menswear with half the venue dedicated to men’s apparel and accessories. Sorry I did not write down specific price lists sample but overall prices were very similar to women’s with almost everything (excluding outerwear) now under $300. The sale ends today at 5pm.
