This week or rather this entire month is full of incredible sample sales and the best part is that there is something for everyone. Home decor fans will be happy to learn that Madeline Weinrib is holding a special sale inside her Fifth Avenue showroom but it is bittersweet as well. Earlier this month the designer, famed for her Ikat pillows and Tibetan carpets, announced that she will be shuttering her business after 20 long and successful years. If you’ve been following this blog long enough I hope that you’ve come to recognize the significance of such a sale. Namely because it is held inside the brand’s own showroom and because it is a final (everything must go) type of an event. All of which usually translates to some pretty amazing deals!
To start with, the current discounts range between 50% to 80% off retail. There are boxes of ikat, silk, and vintage Moroccan and Kyrgyz pillows priced at either $60, $100 or specially marked ($89-$450). This may seem like a lot but keep in mind that most of these items retail at well over $500 and even close to $1,000 for vintage pillows. There are lots of color and pattern choices and selection even includes the most recent designs. Also worth noting is that there are many stock (first quality) pieces and it isn’t simply limited to samples or seconds. While the Ikat are still on the pricey side I highly recommend digging through the $60 boxes. I found quite a few pillows with retail rages of $525 and higher. There are also lots of shams and the staffers informed me that they will be stuffed and added to the rest of the pillows as the sale progresses. You can buy them as-is but considering that they are priced similar to the stuffed pillows it’s not worth it in my opinion.

While the pillows are certainly the big highlight and are among the more affordable finds there are lots of other items to choose from. In fact nearly everything at the showroom is for sale! This includes vintage Italian glass panel chandeliers ($3,000 from $10,000 retail), huge sewing tables ($6,000), furniture (cabinets, tables, chairs, etc.), as well as fabric by the yard. Normally the fabrics are only sold to trade partners but if you’ve got sewing skills this might be a good time to invest! Silk Ikat and Velvet are $150 per yard, Suzani $160, Wool Jacquard $99, Amagansett $59, and Block Print is only $10! There are accessories like towels, makeup and toiletry bags, baskets with pom poms, porcelain, and of course Madeline’s Finds. They include multiple vintage pieces, Moroccan dining sets, drinkware, and even a Rosenthal Tea Set ($250 retail $400). I also spotted a rack of vintage caftans and tunics perfect for summer or resort weather priced at either $150 or $175 (retail $300+).
I was told that the sale will be restocked daily and they are expecting a huge shipment from the recently closed San Francisco showroom. As far as additional markdowns there is no set date in place yet but there is definitely an incentive to sell as much as possible. I would keep an eye out the last few days and will be updating you all as soon as I hear anything new.
